Agni

Agni is called The Lord of Fire. He is the oldest and most revered of the Gods of India. He is said to not only rule over the fire of mind in the mental plane but the fire dormant in matter itself. From him springs the life principle itself that allows us to be born, live and have consciousness in the world of dense physical matter.

So, is Agni some godly entity sitting on a throne directing the matter of the universe?

That's not quite the way it works. Agni is the collective intelligence in matter that has evolved to a high state in a past universe. One could say that Agni is a highly intelligent spiritual entity whose physical body is matter and form itself. This entity pushes matter forward in what is called evolution by scientists. Such evolution does not happen by chance interaction, but is driven forward by the group intelligence of Agni the Lord of fire and giver of life.

Agnichaitans

This is one of three closely related devas or builders. The other two are Agnisuryans and Agnishvattas. These create in the three worlds of form - the physical, astral and mental.

The Agnishvattas are builders in our physical world and their work can visibly be seen in the growth of crystals and mineral forms. They are influenced through sound and can be guided by the adepts toward what is considered magical work. Their magical power is due to the fact the core of their essence is the originating point of fire which is linked by soul energy to the other two deva groups. This energy of fire is the power that creates the physical activity necessary to move creation forward.

We all have many Agnishvattas within our bodies. They can be influenced by the power of thought to build healthier more usable and long lasting bodies.

Agnisuryans

These Devas create form in the astral world. These create the forms in the heavens and hells in the next world that form the habitation of many souls after death. They also create the forms in the devachain.

Even though they exist in a plane above the physical we can still influence them through sound and by our emotional desires. One reason that those who have a powerful one-pointed desire manifest successfully on the physical plane is because these Devas responds to emotion.

Agnishvattas

These are lofty devas that create forms on the plane of the mind which is technically called the fifth subplane of the cosmic physical. The Solar Angels are called Agnishvattas, but is every Agnishvatta a Solar Angel? Not in the way the average seeker understands the work of the solar angel but the terms are pretty much interchangeable.

In a previous system the Agnishvattas passed through the human form and now exist as one of three groups according to DK:
1. The Buddhas or Lords of Activity.
2. The Buddhas or Lords of Compassionate Love.
3. The Buddhas of Sacrifice, of Whom the Lord of the World is, to man, the best known exponent.

These great lives create the forms of their own mental substance that are vehicles for expression of our own consciousness. They create the egoic lotus which expands and unfolds as we progress in consciousness.

To put it quite simply the Agnishvattas could be called our "mothers in heaven." They give birth to our own consciousness by creating organized mind out of their own substance.

Antahkarana

Antahkarana or Antaskarana
Alice A. Bailey uses the word Antahkarana 347 times and Antaskarana 47. Why the variation, I do not know for both seem to be describing the same principle.

The antahkarana is basically a bridge between the higher and the lower. But higher and lower what may be the question.

Ultimately, for the individual it is the bridge that will connect our regular waking consciousness with the Monad. Before this happens one must first build the link to the soul and the higher mind. This is the beginning of the antahkarana.

Basically one can say that the antahkarana is the scientific means of establishing soul contact and more.

The antahkarana is often called a bridge and even a "rainbow bridge." Why is the rainbow brought into the picture? Because the differentiation of the seven colors, or seven rays, must be synthesized into the one great white light for the bridge to be perfected.

DK tells us that "When man is polarized in his mental body, he begins to bridge the antahkarana.
A Treatise on Cosmic Fire, P 1160

It is therefore important for the seeker to dominate his emotional self with logic, reason and common sense.

In addition to there being an individual antahkarana there are group ones. There are antahkarana, which connect humanity to the Hierarchy and the Hierarchy to Shamballa and higher. Then there are antahkarana for higher lives still.

Here is a good quote on the rainbow bridge.
Think in these terms today if you can, and begin to grasp somewhat the significance of the truth therein embodied. In the beautiful Eastern symbology, "The Bridge of Sighs" which links the animal world with the human world and leads all men into the vale of tears, of woe, of discipline and of loneliness, is rapidly being replaced by the radiant Rainbow Bridge, constructed by the sons of men who seek pure light. "They pass across the bridge into the Light serene which there awaits them, and bring the radiant light down to the world of men, revealing the new kingdom of the soul; souls disappear, and only the soul is seen."

Ashram

An ashram is normally seen as being composed of a Master or teacher and his students, but it is more far reaching than that. An ashram can be seen as a circle of influence or inclusion where energies circulate from the center to the periphery. The circulation of energy links disciples to their masters or teachers. There are inner and outer connections to the ashram. The inner are those who consciously meet as individuals and the outer is composed of those under the influence of the ashram. They are linked to it and receive telepathic instruction and feedback.

Causal Body or Egoic Body

These two bodies are essentially the same thing called by two different terms. To confuse the issue further it is also called the Karana-Sarira. This latter phrase comes from the Sanskrit. "Karana" means "cause" and "Sarira" refers to body or bodily frame.

It is also called the Causal Body because it makes possible for the human being to initiate causes.

Finally it is called the Egoic Body because it is the vehicle of expression for our ego. This is not the illusionary, selfish ego as indicated in some teachings, but the highest part of our individuality, which eternally survives.

It's body is the twelve petalled lotus, the higher reflection of the heart center which is in the head and links the heart to the soul and the soul to the monad.

Just as the physical body is the vehicle to house and allow life expression, even so is the causal body a vehicle of consciousness itself. This vehicle was given birth to you by your Solar Angel and as it unfolds consciousness grows and soul contact is established.

When contact and expression is fully created the causal body is no longer needed and we break free from the parent Solar Angel and become linked directly to our Monad, or our personal Father in Heaven.

Cosmic Physical Plane

The Cosmic Physical Plane encompasses all that individual human consciousness is capable of understanding. It is composed of all seven planes that govern the human experience. These seven planes are:

(1) The dense physical, plus the etheric planes

(2) The astral plane

(3) The plane of the mind

These are the three words of form

In addition to this the Cosmic Physical Plane is composed of three formless worlds, which are:

(4) The Buddhic plane

(5) The atmic

(6) The monadic

(7) The divine space

To get an idea of how far we are from transcending the Cosmic Physical to the Cosmic Astral consider that the consciousness of the average human only stretches up to the astral, or the second sub plane of the Cosmic Physical Plane.

EinsteinĀ¹s mind probably only stretched to the fourth plane of Buddha.

The Christ himself, as an individual, reached in consciousness to the sixth plane of the monad and only sensed higher than that though a union with other minds to perceive through a supermind with the help of a molecular relationship.

Esoteric students often wonder what a cosmic astral or mental words could even be as nothing concrete is given out on these higher spheres.

All we can speculate on is that they are a part of a greater universe. Maybe we are only an atom of a pimple on someoneĀ¹s nose in some super universe, they think.

I submit that this is looking the wrong direction. This is only thinking in the direction of a great cosmic physical. To reach the greater cosmic worlds one has to travel there in consciousness and not through space. Only by the Gathering of Lights and uniting as greater lives can the higher cosmic spheres be seen.

Some ask, why we should even contemplate a thing that is beyond our understanding.

The answer is simple. We must always contemplate things beyond our reach if we want to extend our reach. If we only seek that which is easily understood then our progression will come to a standstill.

Deva

These beings are sometimes called members of the angel kingdom and
sometimes called agents of the creative mind of God which go forth to do His will in building all form in the universe.

Even though Devas do not live in the dense physical they create the network wherein the form develops. They do this from the etheric, astral and mental worlds.

There are greater and lesser Devas sometimes called the greater and lesser builders. Many of the greater are considered angels on the evolutionary arc and have passed through the human kingdom. The lesser builders are often called elementals and are on the involutionary arc. These create all physical form that we see about us.

Simply put we could say this. Non physical beings that do not presently incarnate into physical bodies are Devas.

Humans are polarized in the male energy and Devas the female. There are 300 billion greater Devas for this earth.

Electric Fire

Electric fire is the polar opposite of fire by friction and is its source. When we strike a match we produce fire by friction, but this fire consists in more than a chemical reaction for the fire on the physical plane could not be if the higher electrical, or spiritual fire, were not linked to it.

Electric fire is linked with spirit and fire by friction to matter. So why do we not just use the term "spirit and matter" instead? The reason is that "fire" is an aspect of these two planes, an aspect which is created by motion. Electric fire is thus spirit in motion.

What creates the motion?

Divine Will creates the motion and thus sets up creation for life to manifest.

Fire by Friction.

This is the lowest of the fires that manifest in the worlds of form. The simplest explanation is revealed in the striking of a common match. What causes the fire to begin? It is the friction of the match scraping across a rough surface.

Fire by friction produces warmth in the physical universe from a point in a center to the circumference. This fire is manifest at the center of an atom, a cell, the heart of a human being, the center of a planet, the center of the sun and finally of galaxies.

In addition there is a higher correspondence of this fire in the astral and mental worlds. All the worlds of form need warmth and this warmth is produced by fire by friction.

What is the true cause of this fire? Science has not adequately explained it but DK gives us some light stating that: "It is an effect and not a cause. It is produced by the two fires of spirit and of mind (electric and solar fire) contacting each other through the medium of matter...When evolution ends, the fire of matter is not cognisable. It persists only when the other two fires are associated, and it does not persist apart from substance itself."

Fohat

Fohat is divine thought or energy (Shakti) as manifested on any plane of the cosmos. It is the interplay between Spirit and matter. The seven differentiations of Fohat are:
  1. The Plane of divine life - Adi - Sea of fire.
  2. The Plane of monadic life - Anupadaka - Akasha.
  3. The Plane of spirit - Atma - Aether.
  4. The Plane of the intuition - Buddhi - Air.
  5. The Plane of mind - Mental - Fire.
  6. The Plane of desire - Astral - Astral Light.
  7. The Plane of density - Physical - Ether.

Jewel in the Lotus

The vehicle of expression for the Solar Angel is the causal body, which is composed of a twelve-petalled lotus with a jewel in the center.

What is this jewel?

One with higher vision would see "a brilliant point of electric fire of a blue-white hue surrounded, and completely hidden, by three closely folded petals." More specifically the jewel is represented by a triangle with a point in the center.

The triangle is symbolic of the three aspects of the Father, Son and Holy Spirit, or Power, Love and Active Intelligence.

The point in the center represents the one invisible God from whence all life comes.

The Jewel in the Lotus circulates the necessary energies to create life and is the life principle itself. The point in the center is that which we must all pass through to receive higher revelation. It is that which links us all to God and esoterically makes us all one with God and each other.

This lotus is reflected to the centers of each of the seven chakras where a lower octave of the jewel resides. Because of this reflection the seeker can find a partial revelation of God in each of the centers through contemplation. After he finds the seven revelations in the seven centers he will then discover the secret of the jewel in the lotus, the seat of the soul.

Lower Quaternary

The Lower Quaternary consists of:
1. The lower mind.
2. The Emotional or kamic body.
3. Prana, the Life Principle or vital energy.
4. The etheric double of the physical body, or the highest division of the twofold physical body.

This basically represents our vehicles that our consciousness occupies within the three worlds of form. This composes the lower self, or consciousness.

There are several correspondences to the four sides of the Quaternary. One is the city of the New Jerusalem, a city that lies foursquare. The city with the four sides represents the highest perfection that can be achieved in form. Those who enter the city must have the lower quaternary, the four parts of the lower self, dominated by the life of the Spirit.

The four horses of the apocalypse are closely aligned with the lower quaternary, which in turned are aligned with the energies of the lower centers.

Permanent Atom

A permanent atom is a center for force containing what nay be described as a great computer program that has the accumulated knowledge and programming of the pilgrim's past. This programming is an essential ingredient in evolution as it is used to create better more refined bodies as we move forward from life to life.

There are five permanent atoms.
The Physical
The Astral
The Mental
The Buddhic
The Atmic

These are like extensions of a greater permanent atom called the Monad which is a greater extension from cosmic divine space.

I thought I should clarify a couple things about permanent atoms .

Dan asked, "Are the permanent atoms related to the energy "petals" of each centre in any way?"

As Bryan indicated in the quotes he posted the answer would be yes. As we evolve spiritually new energies unfold in our permanent atoms and our centers. The unfolding of energy corresponds and is related but with differences.

An earlier quote I gave needs some clarification. Let me quote the context:

Even so it is with our physical bodies. Life after life we seek to make a better, tougher, healthier, more resourceful body. As we do this, we carry with us all the permanent atoms (programs) of bodies past. Then we reach a point where we start putting our attention on beauty as well as function. During these lives we also have a great interest in the outward beauty of music, art, painting, architecture, creating, and such others. This interest stimulates us so that after we pass out of incarnation, and revise our program for the next body, we put more attention on increasing its beauty and symmetry.

If you have lived 600 lives, for instance, you would have a chain of 600 permanent atoms within you that interplay to create body number 601. http://www.freeread .com/archives/ 306.php

The key to understanding this statement was my point that the permanent atom is like a great computer program that carries within it all of its evolution through the series of lives that have been lived. To see them as six hundred individual atoms is not quite correct. But to see it as one atom within which is information gathered from hundreds of lifetimes s more accurate.

The physical permanent atom corresponds to the DNA. It changes from life to life but if we want a record of the body we do not need to take the whole body, but only one DNA molecule. This has the programming to recreate the body, or it can be altered to create a new body with different characteristics.

Just as the physical DNA has the programming of all the bodies of your ancestors even so does your physical permanent atom have the programming of your bodies from your past lives.

Pitris -- Lunar and Solar

The word Pitris means "Father." They are called our Fathers because they interact with the negative aspect of matter (Mother) in the physical, astral and mental to create form and consciousness.

The Lunar Pitris are the Fathers of life below the human state and the Solar Pitris are the Fathers of human consciousness and above. An individual's Solar Angel would be a Solar Pitris that interacting with refined substance to give birth to your consciousness.

The Lunar Pitris interact with matter to build the vehicles (bodies) of man animal and the entire body of the Planetary Logos.

The Solar Pitris interacts with higher substance to create the egoic, or casual body of man. As the energy of this refined body unfolds the consciousness expands and soul contact is achieved.

Prana

This is basically that energy which gives life on the physical plane.
It begins in the sun and is filtered through the etheric living body of planet earth. We receive some prana directly from the sun but most of it is stepped down earthy prana through the food we eat, the air we breath and the grass and earth we touch with our bare feet. The flow of prana can be enhanced through meditation and focussed attention. It can be directed through the power of the third eye focused on various centers.

To get the prana necessary for good health one should do the following:

(1) Get some sunshine, daily if possible, but not too much as it is possible to get too much of a good thing with this powerful source.

Looking at the sun near sunset or sunrise for short periods also increases the flow.

(2) Food supplies the most prana when it is in its natural uncooked state. Eat as much raw fruits and vegetables possible and do not overcook your meat unless you think it may be contaminated. Eat as many sprouts as possible. Sprout your own as anything you raise yourself is better suited to your own energy flow.

(3) Learn to breathe deeply. You should breathe ten breaths a minute or less. The average is 15-18. I breathe about 6 when sitting.

(4) Walking on Mother earth in bare feet helps the flow of prana. Walking on grass is particularly helpful.

Solar Fire or The Fire of the Mind

All fire involves movement and warmth, but the warmth produced is on different planes. Solar fire creates warmth indeed, not directly on the physical plane but in mind through the motion of rarified mental matter.

The interesting thing is that mind and love are often seen as either opposing or totally different aspects. Unrealized by many is the fact that the fires of love (solar fire) are created by the awakened mind, the stimulated mind, or mind in motion. Without mind there would be no such thing as love manifested on the physical plane.

When spirit (electric fire) and living matter (fire by friction) blend and merge then soul energy or solar fire is created. The mind must awaken to perceive this merging. In the vast majority of humans this aspect of the mind is asleep. When it awakens the soul (or solar fire) is perceived and spiritual love is enflamed. The seeker is then on the path of discipleship and is capable of seeing and understanding the things of the spirit (electric fire).

Spiritual Triad

The Spiritual Triad is often referred to as the "Higher Self" or the"Higher Mind." Technically, it is a Triad composed of Atma-Buddhi- Manas. Manas means mind and refers to the higher part of the mental plane, the third plane of existence, the highest in the worlds of form - the celestial.

Buddhi is the first of the formless worlds, the fourth plane in ascension. This is the carrier of ideas and is accessed through the intuition. The atmic is the fifth plane and is the source of eternal ideas and principles.

The lower Triad, completing the Star of David, is composed of the physical, astral and lower mind. It is important to note that the mind is that plane which is common to the two triads and is thus the key to bringing higher knowledge down to earth. Heaven and earth come together and is understood through the mind. Then the knowledge obtained is set upon its correct course through the desire for service registered in the heart.

The Three Suns: Physical Sun, Heart of the Sun, Central Spiritual Sun

The Physical Sun
The Heart of the Sun
The Central Spiritual Sun

In the past we have talked a lot about the body, or matter, the soul and the spirit. The three fires at first glance seem to be describing the same thing, but in reality they hone in on the aspect of motion.

Similarly, the three suns, represent these three states, but with another aspect emphasized. And what is that?

It is light.

The physical sun not only represents but is the source of physical light. This reveals knowledge.

The heart of the sun represents the light of the soul and is strongly linked to the heart chakra. This reveals wisdom and understanding.

The central spiritual sun represents the light of the spirit and is linked to the head center. This reveals the light of the intuition and is the key to unlocking the Oneness Principle.

The central spiritual sun represents a point in divine space wherein lies the one great light which casts no shadow. Here all is revealed.

Twelve-Petalled Lotus or the Form of the Causal or Egoic Body

Just as our life essence has a form dwelling in the physical body even so does our Higher Self have a form wherein it dwells. This dwelling place is called the causal body and takes the form of a twelve-petalled lotus.

What is called the causal body is really a link in a chain of lotuses which could be called the Greater Causal Body, for all such lotuses in the chain are a source of great causes in the universe.

Soul contact starts with the heart and here also begins the link to the causal body, which links us to the soul and eventually the monad.
Within the heart center is a twelve-petalled lotus, which is linked to a higher twelve-petalled lotus in the head. In turn another lotus of even more refined mental substance is linked to this which is the causal body. This substance is so refined that it can neither be called spirit or matter but oscillates between the two. Our causal bodies are then liked to all other causal bodies on the planet and create the greater causal body or twelve-petalled lotus of the Planetary Logos. Because of this "the souls of men are one." This in turn is linked to a greater lotus of the Solar Logos. Because our Solar Logos is on Ray Two, this gives the power of love great expression in this system through these linkages.

The twelve petals are divided into four sections. The first three are the knowledge pedals, the second, love petals and the third, sacrifice. Within each of these are three petals representing one of these aspects. As the seeker moves upon the path these nine petals unfold and the pilgrim is raised to a higher state of consciousness and new awareness. The meaning of the last three petals are not revealed but are said to be "embryonic" and I suspect they will be activated in the next solar system ages hence.
