Twelve-Petalled Lotus or the Form of the Causal or Egoic Body

Just as our life essence has a form dwelling in the physical body even so does our Higher Self have a form wherein it dwells. This dwelling place is called the causal body and takes the form of a twelve-petalled lotus.

What is called the causal body is really a link in a chain of lotuses which could be called the Greater Causal Body, for all such lotuses in the chain are a source of great causes in the universe.

Soul contact starts with the heart and here also begins the link to the causal body, which links us to the soul and eventually the monad.
Within the heart center is a twelve-petalled lotus, which is linked to a higher twelve-petalled lotus in the head. In turn another lotus of even more refined mental substance is linked to this which is the causal body. This substance is so refined that it can neither be called spirit or matter but oscillates between the two. Our causal bodies are then liked to all other causal bodies on the planet and create the greater causal body or twelve-petalled lotus of the Planetary Logos. Because of this "the souls of men are one." This in turn is linked to a greater lotus of the Solar Logos. Because our Solar Logos is on Ray Two, this gives the power of love great expression in this system through these linkages.

The twelve petals are divided into four sections. The first three are the knowledge pedals, the second, love petals and the third, sacrifice. Within each of these are three petals representing one of these aspects. As the seeker moves upon the path these nine petals unfold and the pilgrim is raised to a higher state of consciousness and new awareness. The meaning of the last three petals are not revealed but are said to be "embryonic" and I suspect they will be activated in the next solar system ages hence.

Some quotes from the Djwhal Khul teachings:

This integration into his environment, his absorption of its atmosphere and his potency in progression are all related to the fact that he is created to receive impression and that he possesses a mechanism of response to all the facets of the divine expression in manifestation. It is for that reason that the truly illumined man and all who have taken the three highest initiations are always referred to as "the diamond soled"; they, in their totality constitute the "jewel in the lotus" - that twelve-petalled lotus which is the symbol and expression of the potency of the planetary Logos.
Telepathy and the Etheric Vehicle, P 90

The planetary Logos, the One in Whom we live and move and have our being, is the informing, ensouling life of this planet, the Earth; it is His life which integrates the planet as a whole, and His life which pours through all forms - great or small - which, in their aggregate, constitute the planetary form. Preserve, therefore, in your conscious imagination and by means of the innate symbol-making faculty which all men possess, the concept of our planet as a great lotus composed of many interweaving energies, located within the greater form of the solar system which is, as we know, esoterically portrayed as a twelve-petalled lotus. This lotus, the Earth, is responsive to the many entering energies with which I dealt at some length in my book upon Esoteric Astrology. (A Treatise on the Seven Rays, Vol. III.)
Telepathy and the Etheric Vehicle, P 182

He is aware of the point of focused tension which he has succeeded in producing and that three streams of energy have contributed to it - the focused energy of the personality, poised in the lower concrete mind, the inflowing magnetic energy of the soul, streaming out from the twelve petals of the three tiers plus the innermost tier of the egoic lotus, and the energy of the "jewel in the lotus" - all streaming into the center of tension on the mental levels of the lower mind.
The Rays and the Initiations, P 502

As the lotus center of the heart opens and reveals the love of God, through meditation a synchronous unfoldment takes place within the head. The twelve petalled lotus in the head (which is the higher correspondence of the heart center, and the intermediary between the twelve petalled egoic lotus on its own plane and the head center) awakens. The pineal gland is gradually brought from a state of atrophy to full functioning activity and the center of consciousness is transferred out of the emotional nature into the illuminated mind consciousness.
The Yoga Sutras of Patanjali, P 292

It is interesting to note that just as the Monad, impelled by desire, produces that form of life which we call the personality, so the mind aspect, as part of the purpose working out through the Universal Mind, in its turn produces that manifestation which we call a Manasaputra, the great Son of Mind on the mental plane. Hence it is the mind principle in humanity which brings into manifestation the egoic body, the causal vehicle, the karana sarira, the twelve-petalled lotus. We are of course talking entirely in terms of the form aspect here. The reason for this lies back on the cosmic planes, whereon the planetary Logos has His life. From the cosmic astral plane comes the impulse which produces form existence and concrete expression - for all form-taking is the result of desire. From the cosmic mental plane comes the will-to-be in time and space, which produces the seven groups of egoic lives and the third outpouring.
A Treatise on White Magic, P 361

It is for this reason that the units of the fifth Hierarchy are called "The Hearts of Fiery Love"; they save through love, and in their turn these lives are peculiarly close to the great Heart of Love of the solar Logos. These great redeeming Angels, who are the Sons of Men on their own true plane, the mental, are ever, therefore, pictured as taking the form of twelve-petalled lotuses - this symbology linking them up with "the Son of Divine Love," the manifested solar system, which is said to be a cosmic twelve-petalled lotus, and with the logoic causal lotus, equally of a twelve-petalled nature.
We have, therefore, a direct flow of energy flowing through:
  1. The logoic twelve-petalled egoic Lotus. Cosmic mental plane.
  2. The solar twelve-petalled Lotus.
  3. The planetary logoic Heart, also a twelve-petalled Lotus.
  4. The twelve-petalled human egoic lotus on the mental plane.
  5. The twelve-petalled heart center in a human being.
Or, to word it otherwise, energy flows directly from:
  1. The solar Logos via three great cosmic centers:
    1. The central spiritual Sun.
    2. The heart of the Sun.
    3. The physical Sun.
  2. The heart center of the planetary Logos, situated on the fourth cosmic etheric plane (our buddhic plane).
  3. The egoic lotus of a human being on the mental plane, which is literally a correspondence to the "heart of the sun." The monadic point is a reflection in the human system of the "central spiritual sun."
  4. The heart center of a man on the etheric plane of the physical plane, which is in its turn a correspondence to the physical sun.

Thus the tiny atom man is linked with the great central Life of the solar system.
A Treatise on Cosmic Fire, P 1204

Ruth comments:
After reading what Bryan pointed out in his post, it seems that each petal represents a journey of experiences and lessons in the unfolding of each petal through each Astrological sign.

Each Astrological sign represents a specific life lesson to be gained through that aspect.

I guess the energy that each petal represents would depend on whether one is going clockwise or anti-clockwise around the Zodiac. Perhaps on the path of Discipleship, then each petal represents the higher correspondence of the particular Astrological sign and its energy that the Disciple is working through in each incarnation as to what unfolds on the higher consciousness level.

From another post Ruth says:
The Twelve Petal Lotus in relation to the Masters of Wisdom?

The Jewel in the Lotus?

It seems that the 12 petal lotus is like an anchor holding the ship of the soul to the port on Land.

Perhaps the 12 petal lotus is that which extends and unfolds throughout the Molecular Principle and Relationship between the Anchor (Christ/Son/ Soul) and the remaining Disciples who form the link or chain through which a higher entity can work through, the 12 and 24, if we include both male and female partnerships in the original molecule, or male/male and female/female, depending on who has soul contact and can connect up with that Anchor or Jewel in the Lotus through the Molecular Order.

Bryan writes:
Using the words/ideas of the "Twelve-Petalled Lotus" -- as it relates to it being "the form of" the Egoic/Causal Body -- and then comparing it to other words/ideas/ concepts that I am presently aware of, I found the following "associations. "

Whether they have any real, direct or applicable correspondences, I don't know for sure; nonetheless, here they are:

Aside from the many other direct/obvious correspondences associated with the number "twelve," there is also the twelve-petalled human egoic lotus on the mental plane:

"The egoic lotus of a human being on the mental plane, which is literally a correspondence to the "heart of the sun." The monadic point is a reflection in the human system of the "central spiritual sun." (Treatise On Cosmic Fire)

The/A "12 Strand DNA helix" associated with the human genome/blueprint:

See: http://www.keylonti cdictionary. org/Words/ 1/12-Strand% 20DNA.htm

...and other correspondences to both "the micro-macro" ...

...the primary one that came to my mind was the "Twelve Fruits" spoken of in "The New Jerusalem Meditation" that correspond to the twelve signs of the zodiac, which are (to my understanding) representative of twelve "attributes" representing twelve different "purposes."

I could see how the above might correspond (or be a key) to the "form & development of) various "petals of the body of the organ" of the twelve-petalled lotus -- egoic/causal body -- or "soul body."

Here is a "compilation" on "The Jewel":

In the book "The Revelation of St. John: The Path to Soul Initiation" By Zachary F. Lansdowne, I found this interesting footnote:

(begin quote)
In Bailey's "Treatise On Cosmic Fire" pp 538, 763 & 802, characterizes the causal body in a way that is quite similar to verses 19 & 20. In particular the causal body is pictured as "The Twelve Petaled Lotus" with it's petals arranged in a circle; the unfoldment of a petal symbolizes the acquisition of wisdom. After spiritual transformation occurs, this "lotus" is "palpitating with every color in the rainbow, and is of a wide radius; the streams of electrical energy circulating in it are so powerful that they are escaping beyond the periphery of the circle, resembling the rays of the sun." Here, "electrical energy" is a synonym for "will-impulse. "
(end quote)

There are TONS of "quotes and correspondences" made by this author between AAB/DK's works & the Bible. May be an interesting read.

Here's the LONG link to the online Google Book:

Whenever I look at the DK chart on the Egoic Lotus and the Centres, the Egoic Lotus for some reason looks to be the Solar Angels base chakra. I am trying to work out why, but from looking directly at the whole set up of the system and how it works, and considering that our base chakra is like a reverse to our crown chakra, and yet the base chakra lights up all the other chakras as the energies move upwards, then as we are like a reversed reflection of God, the Mirror or Midway point would be like the Egoic Lotus.

Maybe you or Mindy could explain this chart in more detail one day?

If the human mental or crown chakra is at the top of the head, and then this connects together with the Solar Angel and its chakra system via the base of the foundational life energy of the Solar Angel, and then the Solar Angel chakra system connects on upwards to the Monad or Will, I can see to some degree how that might work.

Why are there only 5 permanent atoms?

The Egoic Lotus = Sacrifice Petals and Love Petals

The Soul and Causal Body = Knowledge Petals.

It would appear to be the mental energies through which these petals may unfold. Perhaps the energies of the Divine lower Soul and Mind at that higher level of consciousness via the Solar Pitris.

The Egoic Lotus is the midway point between the Personality and the Spiritual Triad. Once unfolded then it is no longer needed as the higher Mind would become part of the Spiritual Triad through the Intuition level connection, it seems to me, after studying the chart on the Constitution of Man.

"The heart center is composed of twelve energy petals that slowly unfold as we evolve toward Spirit. Six are different types of love energy and six are differing types of wisdom energies.

These wisdom energies in connection with the two head centers are very much linked to mind and thought as well as spiritual feeling. Solomon talked about thinking in the heart and indeed he was teaching a profound realization. "

I am not sure what type of energy "each petal" represents individually. If they were split into four petal groups, for example, four petals which were a sacrificial type energy, then four petals which were love energy at varying degrees of "love" and then four petals of varying degrees of knowledge and the impact it has on the unfolding of the consciousness, then it probably is not specific enough for an answer, and I need to read up more on this topic.
